Hearing Test

Evaluate the sensitivity of your hearing with a hearing frequency test at an audiometric testing centre in Singapore.

What Is A Hearing Test?

A hearing test is an evaluation of a person’s hearing sensitivity. It is often performed at an audiometric testing centre by a hearing professional such as an audiologist or hearing consultant.

What Are The Types Of Hearing Tests?

The audiometric testing centre offers two types of hearing tests: Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) and Paediatric Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA), which are hearing tests designed for infants and children. Other hearing tests may also be available based on the individual’s needs and requirements.

What Is A Pure Tone Audiometric Test (PTA)?

The Pure Tone Audiometric test (PTA) is the most common and accepted test to determine if an individual requires hearing aids. Its primary purpose is to help identify the individual’s hearing frequency, aiding the hearing professional in determining the degree, type, and configuration of hearing loss. This result provides the basis for diagnosis and management. Other tests may come into play depending on the results of the PTA.

How Is A Pure Tone Audiometric Test (PTA) Performed?

To attain an accurate PTA result, the hearing professional will first check the ear canal for obstructions, such as earwax or foreign objects that may affect the test outcome. Any obstruction could insulate sound and impact the accuracy of the test. Therefore, the hearing professional has to perform an otoscopy first.

What Is An Otoscope?

An otoscope is a device designed to help the hearing professional do a visual check of the ear canal and eardrum. This Video Otoscope service allows the audiologist to show the individual what their ear looks like – a perspective they will never be able to see normally.

This is the view from the otoscope and this particular image is of a healthy ear drum and unobstructed ear canal.

What Happens After An Otoscopy?

After the otoscopy, the hearing professional will provide detailed instructions on how to proceed with the PTA. Follow the instructions, as the test will likely take 20 minutes.

You will be able to receive results after the audiometric test. Your hearing professional will then explain the results of your hearing test.
