Hearing, in its very essence, helps us lead our daily lives without limitations.
However, most often than not, we take it for granted and delay on giving it some much-needed TLC until we realise it is too late.
While we’re lucky to have been born with advanced technologies in the market such as hearing aids, it’s still so much better to prevent unfortunate health conditions to develop by taking good care of our hearing.
Here are some fun activities you can do as recommended by our hearing experts.
1. Regular Exercise
Daily workout is beneficial to the body, most especially to one’s hearing. Allowing yourself to move regularly increases blood circulation in the ear and brain, which helps improve nerve functions. A study published in The Americal Journal of Medicine found that two hours of weekly exercise is already enough to decrease the risk of developing hearing loss.
A tip is to try out different workouts and figure out what works best for you. Invite your friends to join you or meet new ones along the way to keep your active life fun and exciting.
2. Yoga
Yoga has long been proven for a wide variety of benefits. If you’re a yoga enthusiast or curious to start your journey of being a yogi, you’ll be delighted to know that this exercise also promotes hearing health.
Just like cardio workouts, certain yoga poses such as the tree, lotus, cobra, and triangle help regulate blood flow as well as remove wastes and toxins. Furthermore, studies show that patients who suffer from tinnitus have also found ease in practising regular yoga.
3. Meditation
Unnecessary stress and anxiety can have a negative impact on your brain. As it plays a huge role in how hearing works, it is also important to keep our brain as stress-free as possible.
Take a few minutes every day to clear and calm your mind. Meditating for as little as five minutes daily can help improve your brain’s ability to process sounds.
4. Solve Puzzles
This is another way to keep your brain sharp and healthy, which then reduces the chance of developing hearing problems. While our ears are the ones receiving sounds, our brains are doing the work in processing sensory information.
Sudoku, crosswords, and word searches help us maintain healthy brain tissues and neural connections, which are all necessary to complete the hearing process.
5. Sound focus and sound location
Sound isolation is exactly what it sounds like. This particular activity trains your hearing when it comes to carrying out conversations around noisy environments. The good thing about this is that you can do it just about anywhere.
Distinguish the sounds that you can hear and identify where they are coming from. Focus on these sounds for a few seconds. Try to filter out background noises for a brief moment before moving on to the next sound.
Don’t put off your hearing health any longer. Go through these fun and simple exercises and your hearing will thank you for it later.
However, If you are already experiencing hearing loss, be sure to have your hearing checked. Listening Lab is a hearing center with branches you can visit for a hearing test in Singapore.
